Memoirs of a Geisha adalah sebuah novel, karya Arthur Golden pada tahun 1997. Novel ini berisi cerita Geisha di Kyoto yang bekerja selama Perang Dunia Kedua. Memoirs of a Geisha juga telah difilmkan dengan judul yang sama dan alur ceritanya diarahkan oleh Rob Marshall dan co Zhang Ziyi.

Secara pribadi saya belum pernah membaca buku ini, hanya pernah menonton DVD nya. itupun bukan beli tapi hanya rental. beberapa teman yang pernah baca buku dan menonton filmx akan kecewa karena kata mereka 'terlalu banyak hal di dalam buku yang tidak ada dalam film'.

Sedikit yang kutahu tentang Memoirs of a Geisha, ceritanya memberitahu tentang Geisha, yang dikenal dengan nama Nitta Sayuri, tinggal di New York ibukota Jepang. sebelumnya Sayuri, anak perempuan seorang nelayan di sebuah desa kecil di Jepang. Saat ibunya meninggal, dia dan kakak perempuannya diambil ke Gion oleh seorang yang terpandang di desa itu.

kaka perempuannya dijual disebuah rumah bordil sedangkan dia sendiri terjual pada Okiya (sebuah rumah geisha). di okiya inilah dia tumbuh besar dan akhirnya menjadi seorang geisha. tentusaja banyak halangan dan rintangan yg terjadi. yg tidak bisa sa paparkan disini..
